Thank you from Coaches Care

With a backdrop of perfect weather, on Saturday June 10, we held our 14th annual sold out COACHES Care golf classic, at Heron Glen Golf Course.  We begin the planning of this event a year in advance to make sure our participants are shown a first class event and this year was no different.  There are many people that make this event something that people look forward to every year and I cannot thank them enough.  Our volunteers, who year after year are there from check-in to the last door prize, deserve a world of thanks.   Carol Ullom, Joanna DeLauro, Colleen Hubner, Alyssa McCreesh, Laura McCreesh, Nicole McCreesh, Marie Benak, Maryanne Decker, and Toni Moretti, are a big part of our foundation.  The hallmark of the event are the sponsors and this year we would like to thank the Gold Sponsors Gray Metal Products, Southwark Metal Mfg., The Lanza Law Firm, and Dunphey-Smith Co., and our Silver Sponsors, Newmark School, L and F Martin Landscape Co., EWC Controls, Meyer and Depew, and our Bronze sponsors, The Memory of Bob Harrington, Maureen Washington in memory of Rich Washington, Custom Fence and Deck, John Karcher, Lombardi and Lombardi, and Jeff McCreeesh.  Special thanks to our breakfast sponsors, Glenn Gerber along with Haisch’s Bakery for all the donuts and The Bagel Pantry for donating the bagels. The on course events were sponsored by, NJL Holdings, Tele Cable, Holly Park Interiors, Santoro and Santoro,  Harris Realty, and McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals.   A special thank you to the JFK Medical Center, for donating all of the men’s and women’s Under Armour shirts.  Thanks to all of our tee sponsors, Kevin and Karen Nelson, Bernie McCreesh, Harbour Sales, Jack Peterson Realty, Creative Kids Academy, Warren Tamaroff and Halls Trucking, Harbour Sales, R.T Tech Electric, Andy and Eva Singer, Heilmann’s Gulf, Quality Auto Glass, South Plainfield Golf Association, HBC Electric, Goodwin-Archer Associates, Thomas Ernst Associates, Nick Lemmo’s Carco Autoworld, Flemington Tile Supply Co., Oak Tree Wines, Haisch’s Bakery, Nischwitz Ashbrook Energies, BHHS-The Lacerda Team, Glen Ewing, Tie-Tac, Capt. Donny Haiber, David Leiz Custom Woodworking, Charlie Decker, Billy Butrico, Miglis General Contracting, B & B Interiors, Lynn Reed Associates,  Sales Team Solutions, Witty’s Liquors, Edison-Metuchen Orthopaedic Group, Joan McCreesh, Bolesta Landscaping, Patti Construction, Dr. Frank P. Licato Agency, Patrick McCreesh, Sands Ocean Club, Lanza and Lanza LLP, Kraus and Naimer, East Coast Title Agency, Duro Dyne Corp.,  Robert Anthony and South Plainfield Sheet Metal.  Special thanks to Steve Senz who provides all of our accounting services.  Also a big thanks to those who donated to our auction, The Decker Family, James Fiorentino, Thom Lanza, Paul Shane, Mohn’s Flowers, Nancy O’Shea-Kobo Products, Conair, Greg Cohen, Warren Tamaroff, and Dunphey Smith.  Thanks to those who donated door prizes that allowed most of our participants to leave with a gift,  Fedway, Ski Setting, Mei House, Sherban’s Diner, Carmen’s Trattoria, Park Ave. Diner, Hometown Hero’s, Mr.Subs, Pizza Stop, Bagel Pantry, Ciccio’s Restaurant, Armand Pizza, New York Jets, New York Rangers, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, KC’s Korner, Dunphey Smith, The Girls in the Piscataway Court House, Gabrielle’s, Converge One, Vincenzo’s, Mama Rosina’s, Girasole, Cahoots, Capelli’s Hair Salon, Ellery’s, Spain Inn, Ferraro’s, Carpaccio’s, Pizza and Pasta, New York Giants, Rutgers Golf Course, Armand Pizza, Charlie Decker, Thom Lanza and Paulo’s Barbeque.  We would like to thank Mayor Anesh and the Town Council for recommending Coaches Care for their charitable donation.  We truly do live in a most giving town.  None of this would be possible without the great efforts of Bill DeNitzio, Ted Tucker, Rich Little, Kurt Ullom, Keith Heckel, Tony Cassano, Charlie Decker, and Chris Hubner who each year go above and beyond, allowing us to give our guests a better event than the previous year.  Our event this year will raise almost $65,000 and places our total over 17 years at over $875,000.  The funds will be used to donate an Immersive Rehabilitation Exercise (IREX) system that will allow the children with brain tumors to be placed in a virtual reality world to help test their motor skills.  It will allow the therapists to monitor and track the progress of the children’s balance, coordination and trunk control.  An example would be to set the children up as a soccer goalie and then have virtual reality shots on goal taken to see their reaction.   As we continue to grow the COACHES CARE footprint at JFK we are truly thankful for all of the support we have received over the years and know that none if it would be possible without all of the support we have received from our sponsors.  It’s been said it takes a village to raise a child, and we are proud to have a village of people supporting children who struggle every day.  To the Big Guy who shines down on us every year and to RH who factors in on everything we have done, thank you for continuing to inspire us every year, and for reminding us that each day is a gift and should be treated as such.  We will see you for our 15th annual event on June 9, 2018.

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote (Random House, 1965)

In Cold Blood is, quite simply, the grand-daddy of true crime writing, dubbed by Capote, himself, as the first non-fiction novel (although Norman Mailer argued the point when he published The Executioner's Song in 1979.) The conditions under which I read In Cold Blood for the first time were pretty weird, which was another ...

If You Want to Experience the Awkwardness of Race Relations, Look No Further Than Sunday Morning

In a country that is more racially divided than ever, our churches reflect the divide on Sunday morning. In America, we miss the mark on integrating the faces and lives of many races and ethnicities into our Christian communities.

LifeWay conducted a survey of 994 churchgoers who attend religious services more frequently than just holidays. They also surveyed 1,000 Protestant senior pastors of ...
