The South Plainfield Boys’ Spring Track has continued to be one of the most successful programs for the Spring Athletic Season. The Boys’ have been dominate in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division for the last few years. After being decimated by graduation, the Tigers were not sure what the season would hold. South Plainfield once again won the Blue Division Championship. A lot of this success is due to the consistency of senior captain, Alejandro Garcia.
Last week marked a big week in the running records of South Plainfield Senior Alejandro Garcia. Al has been working since last season to break the two minute barrier in the 800 meter dash. On Saturday, May 12th, at the GMC Championships, Al ran a one minute, fifty nine second 800 to place sixth and put himself in this accomplished field of athletes. Then on Thursday, May 17th, Al helped his fellow teammates claim back to back Blue Division Championships as he finished first in the 400 hurdles, pole vault and 800 meter run. Al gained 15 points for his program and helped them secure the victory against opponent Carteret High School. Al looks to gain on his 800 meter time as the season moves on to State Sectionals May 25th and 26th.
Each week the South Plainfield High School Athlete Department will feature an athlete of the week.
