The South Plainfield Boys’ Winter Track Team is consistently been one of the most successful programs for the Winter Athletic Season. The Boys’ have been dominate in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division the last few years, winning both the Blue Division Relay and Blue Division Individual Championships last season. Much of this success is due to senior leader Alejandro Garcia.
Alejandro Garcia has started this Winter Track Season as if the Spring Meet of Champions was just last month. Al was a key member of the 4 x 800 relay team that made it to the Meet of Champions for the first time in school history last June. Al is determined to continue his success as 2017 comes to an end and 2018 begins. Just last week at the Merli Invitational, Al ran the fastest leg on the 4 x 800 relay that finished second in the Small Schools Division. Al followed this up by anchoring the fourth place 4 x 400 relay team. Off the track, Al finished 4th in the high jump while besting all Small School Competitors in the Pole Vault. This is the second time in this short season that Al has walked away from a meet with multiple medals. Al has his sights set on bettering his times while his leadership and example at practice are a motivation to his fellow athletes.
Each week the South Plainfield High School Athlete Department will feature an athlete of the week.
