Friday December 15th was opening day for South Plainfield Girls’ Basketball. The South Plainfield Team won an exciting back and forth win over Woodbridge. The Tigers were able to pull ahead in the fourth quarter, and then go on to a 49-42 victory. Sophomore Alyssa Palmeri was a major contributor to the Lady Tigers’ triumph.
Alyssa Palmeri had an outstanding game. She led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points. All of which came from the 3-point range, as she netted 6 three pointers. With South Plainfield losing 26-22, Alyssa hit five of her 3-point shots in the final quarter. With the tenacity and work ethic of players like Alyssa, the Girls’ Basketball Team should be destined for a break out season.
Each week the South Plainfield High School Athlete Department will feature an athlete of the week.
