The South Plainfield Wrestling Team continues to have an extremely impressive season. The team not only won a Group III State Championship, but they rolled into the individual season with a state record 33rd consecutive District Championship. The top three wrestlers went on to compete in Union in the Regions for the opportunity to wrestle in Atlantic City for an individual state title. The Tigers once again showed their dominance sending seven athletes to compete in the state tournament. South Plainfield can attribute their ongoing success on the mat to the contributions of this weeks’ athlete of the week, Senior 126 pounder Jake Giordano.
Jake Giordano is having an outstanding senior campaign. He currently has a record of 38 wins to only three losses. Jake started the season winning the Morris Knolls Tournament Title. He also won the Greater Middlesex Conference Championship for the second year in a row. Jake Giordano was vital to the Group Championship win, going 5-0 during the week and scoring bonus points in four of those matches. Jake started his quest for Atlantic City with a District XIV Championship and then finished as the runner-up in Region 4. This made Jake a 2x State Qualifier and alive to bring home a medal in the State Tournament in Atlantic City March 3rd-5th.
