The South Plainfield Softball team had an exciting week of action where they faced some top competition in the Greater Middlesex Conference. The Tigers got things rolling by defeating John F. Kennedy 2-0 on Monday night and then Colonia 10-0 on Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday, the Lady Tigers traveled to Sayreville High School to battle for the GMC White Division Title. Going down early with a five run deficit, South Plainfield clawed its way back. They scored a 7-5 come from behind win to secure the division title. Our Lady Tigers are now 17-1 and ranked No. 13 in the State of New Jersey. A key part of the Lady Tigers’ success this week were the efforts and contributions of sophomore Jillian Holoboski, this weeks’ athlete of the week.
After a solid freshman campaign, Jillian has continued to be a huge part of her team’s success. This past week, Jillian had eight hits. She also hit two homeruns and had six runs batted in (RBIs) while scoring eight more herself. On the season, Jillian is batting an impressive .596. So far, she has four homeruns and twenty six RBIs. Jillian has scored twenty four times for her team. Jillian and the Lady Tigers hope to keep this momentum going into the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament this weekend.
