The South Plainfield wrestling team continued its winning ways as they battled through an incredibly busy week. The Tiger wrestlers defeated North Plainfield 49-30, Seton Hall Prep 42-25, and GMC rival Woodbrdige 48-30 in a quad on December 28th. Then, two days later they wrestled in a tri meet at Scotch Plains where they beat Scotch Plains 43-21 and No. 14 Delaware Valley 33-26. The Tigers are currently 7-0 and were led by this week’s Athlete of the Week, Joe Heilmann.
After a successful sophomore campaign that saw Joe finish 5th place in the state of New Jersey, Heilmann has been dominant. He scored a tech fall against Seton Hall’s Maguire Pecci, who took 4th in Region 3 last year, and won a convincing decision against Delaware Valley’s AJ DeRosa, a state qualifier from last year. With Joe’s hard work and dedication to himself and his team, the Tiger wrestlers are excited about what is still to come.
Each week the South Plainfield High School Athlete Department will feature an athlete of the week.
