The South Plainfield Boys’ Winter Track Team has quietly been one of the most successful programs for the Winter Athletic Season. The Boys’ have been dominate in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division, winning both the Blue Division Relay and Blue Division Individual Championships. Much of this success is due to the continued consistency of the returning 55 Meter Dash State Champion.
Marteese Jones is back in form after a tough start to the winter season. Marteese ran a Group 2 leading time of 6.54 seconds last Thursday night at the Ed Grant Last Chance Invitational in the Jersey City Armory. Marteese had some tough competition that evening with Lincoln High School's Desmond Stevens making it a photo finish. So far this season, Marteese has placed first in the 55 meter dash at the Merli Invitational in December while also battling his way to fifth place in a very competitive Greater Middlesex County Meet. Marteese was key to the Boys' 4 x 200 team achieving fourth place overall at the GMC Relays. Marteese also currently has the fastest 400 meter dash on the team. Marteese and his senior teammates insured that the Boys' program walked away with the Greater Middlesex Conference's Blue Division Relay and Blue Division Individual Championships. Marteese looks to continue his winning ways next Sunday at the Central Jersey State Sectionals.
Each week the South Plainfield High School Athlete Department will feature an athlete of the week.
