The South Plainfield Football team battled injuries and numbers all season but remained competitive. The Tigers finished its season with a win in the annual North vs South game. One of the leaders for South Plainfield this season was senior Samuel Nieves.
Sam demonstrated that he was one of the better players in the conference. For the season at quarterback Sam completed 14 of 21 passing attempts for 185 yards and two touchdowns. As a running back he rushed for an impressive 1,037 yards and 8 touchdowns. Out of the back field as a receiver Sam was also a threat. He had 9 catches for another 85 yards. Sam’s all-purpose yards totaled 1,307.
Being a well-rounded player, Sam also contributed on defense with 44 tackles and one interception. The Tigers are sure to miss Sam Nieves on the gridiron next season.
