Only a few weeks into the winter sports’ season, all of the South Plainfield teams are in full stride.  One of the more consistently successful programs, Winter Track, is already off to an impressive season.  Looking to defend their division titles, South Plainfield has been working hard.  The team is off to a fast start and one athlete propelling the program is Sophomore Sofia Watson.

Just this past weekend, Sofia earned three medals in the small schools' division at the Merli Invitational.  Her first medal of the day was won in the first race of the day as Sofia placed fifth overall in the 400 meter dash.  Then Sofia, competing in the High Jump for only the second time in her young career, cleared four feet, ten inches to bring home a silver medal.  Sofia stayed calm and easily cleared opening height and on as she competed on tired legs.  Sofia then worked together with fellow Sophomores Hailey Palmer and Lauryn McMillan as well as Senior Samantha Pullen to bring home a gold in the 4 x 400 meter relay.  Just the weekend before, Sofia, Sam, Hailey and Lauryn broke the current indoor school record, running a 4:26.4 at the Demarest Invitational.  Only more good things are on the horizon for the Winter Track Program with this collection of talented athletes.
