The South Plainfield High School Wrestling Team won their thirty-sixth consecutive District title this past Saturday as they outpaced second place finisher St. John Vianney 192.5-155.  The Tigers crowned three champions, four runners up, and two third place finishers to qualify the District best nine wrestlers to the Region V Tournament at Franklin High School.  Among many great individual performances by the Tigers, sophomore, Tyler Balent continued to improve on his successful season finishing second to qualify for the Region V Tournament.

In his first season as a full-time starter, Tyler currently sits at 19-16 on the season and also earned a top 8 finish in the GMC Tournament.  This past weekend Tyler went 2-1 with a pin and a major decision to help catapult the Tigers to another District title.  Tyler entered the District tournament as the 3rd seed and quickly took care of business in his opening round match recording a fall over 6th seeded Daniel Hennessey of Old Bridge.  He would go on to dominate 2nd seeded and 30 match winner, Aaron Munford in the semi-finals by a score of 11-3 qualifying him for the Region tournament for the first time in his career.  Tyler would fall in the finals to Owen Disbrow of St. Thomas Aquinas 3-0, but gave him everything he could to finish his tournament. The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday at the Region V Tournament at Franklin High School.
