The South Plainfield Wrestling Team finished its fantastic season this past weekend at the New Jersey Individual State Wrestling Championships. The top four wrestlers from the Region Tournament in Union had the opportunity to wrestle in Atlantic City for an individual state title. The Tigers placed two out of their seven qualifiers in the State of New Jersey, Sophomore 220 pounder Zach DelVecchio became a 2x state place winner by finishing fourth in the State of New Jersey.
Zach DelVecchio finished another outstanding season. His record was an impressive 44-3, which brings his career total to an astonishing 82-6. Zach started the season winning the Morris Knolls Tournament Title. He also won the Greater Middlesex Conference Championship for the second year in a row. Zach DelVecchio was a major contributor to the success the Tigers had in the post season. He went 5-0 during the week to help South Plainfield win back to back Group III State Championships. Zach started his quest for Atlantic City with a District XIV Championship and then finished with his second Region Championship. This made Zach a 2x State Qualifier. In Atlantic City Zach had a great tournament. Coming from the seventh seed he finished 4th. With two years remaining in his career, Zach will be vying for an individual state championship in years to come.
