SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - A transformer fire blacked out the south side of town for a little over an hour Saturday, affecting residents near Durham Avenue, Hamilton Boulevard, and South Clinton Avenue.

Residents lost power shortly before 1 p.m. and power was restored a little after 2 p.m.  

Due to the power loss, traffic lights along Hamilton Boulevard and Durham Aveune stopped functioning, and police were dispatched to major intersections to direct traffic.

PSE&G responded shortly after fire and repaired a transformer by Valley National Bank on Durham Avenue.
