SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Twin City Pharmacy and Surgical, a staple in the community since 1972, recently became an authorized MedSafe Unused Medication Disposal site.
With MedSafe, which is manufactured by Sharps Compliance, unused and/or expired non-hazardous medications, including controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter medicines, can be disposed of safely and securely. Medication can be dropped in the locked metal box located in the Park Avenue pharmacy and only removed by an authorized collector.
“Medicines play an important role in treating many conditions and diseases but when they are no longer needed it is important to dispose of them properly to help reduce harm from accidental exposure or intentional misuse,” said Sandy Cassio who, along with her cousin, Tommy Cassio, and brother-in-law Bill Ashnault, has run the family-owned business since 2007.
“Consumers and caregivers should remove expired, unwanted, or unused medicines from their home as quickly as possible to help reduce the chance that others may accidentally take or intentionally misuse the unneeded medicine. Medicine take-back programs are a good way to safely dispose of unneeded medicines,” added Sandy. “Our MedSafe box allows anyone to dispose their medications safely and anonymously, no questions asked.”
“You don’t need to have purchased your medications at Twin City Pharmacy in order to use the MedSafe disposal,” said Ashnault, pharmacist-in charge. “Our staff pharmacists and myself are available to answer any questions or concerns whether you are a customer at our pharmacy or not. This is a community service we participate with to make our homes and neighborhoods ultimately safer for all.”
Twin City, a full-service pharmacy for prescriptions and vaccinations, also offers durable medical equipment, surgical and wound care, ostomy/incontinence care, respiratory care, diabetic management, enteral feeding supplies and orthopedics as well as breast pumps. Additionally, Twin City installs portable ramps and provides medication and equipment to hospice and health care patients. The Park Avenue pharmacy also accepts worker’s compensation, Medicare and most insurance plans and, since they are an independently run business with low overhead, their prices are competitive.
Twin City, which prides itself on being ‘today’s modern pharmacy with old fashioned values,’ is open seven-days-a-week and offers free delivery service to all customers, including those who may not reside within South Plainfield. They also stock most over-the-counter and prescription medications and a wide-range of medical equipment.
