Women’s Leadership Team Committee Host Speakers at SPMS

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The South Plainfield Women's Leadership Team Committee began hosting female leader speakers 7 years ago, to the 7th and 8th grade young ladies.  The speakers inspire and promote the concept that all the young ladies can reach their career goals by following through with their education, their determination to overcome any challenges, and their dreams.

 This year’s speakers were Rev. Ellen Clemot, Esq and Dr. Allison Fraizer Jackson.

Rev. Ellen Clark Clemot is an ordained Presbyterian Minister.  She is currently the Senior Pastor/Head of Staff at the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen. Previously she served as Assistant Pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown on Long Island.  She was ordained into the ministry in 2012 after graduating with the Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary that same year.

Pastor Clemot is a graduate of Brown University where she graduated magna cum laude in Creative Writing and Religious Studies.  She put aside seminary studies at first in order to pursue a law career.

After graduating from Brown, she attended New York University School of Law and excelled in second amendment religious freedom cases and contract law.  She joined the Law Firms of Cravath, Swaine and Moore after graduation and spent her early law years in their New York and London offices.  She practiced corporate, finance, and international mergers and acquisition for over 20 years and eventually joined a law firm in Paris where she met her husband, Andr'e.

They lived in Paris for eight years before moving to New York City in 1999, where Attorney Clemot continued her practice of law until entering Seminary on 2009.

Dr. Allison Frazier Jackson is President / Founder of AJA and Managing Director of The Edwina Group, LLC. She holds five degrees, and is known as a woman of “firsts”. First 14 year- old in her family to go to college; graduate college at 18; earn 2 master’s degrees at the same time and complete two doctorates at the same time.

She is currently the leader of Entrepreneurial STEAM K-20 program that engages students, educators, government and business community in growing science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics (STEAM) entrepreneurship. She founded Million Women Mentors - New Jersey Chapter in 2015 and won the national prize for leadership; in 2016, she wrote the winning grant for the STEM Ecosystem prize for 8 counties in South Jersey to grow STEAM K-16 and is currently a NJ State Judge for STEAM TANK grades K – 14.

She has held 26 jobs ranging from H.S. teacher, city, county, State planner, Vice President, RCA Corporation, Consultant to 23 CEOs’ Fortune 100, Assistant Dean at Princeton University School of Engineering & Applied Science, Global Quality Consultant AT&T, leading a global team monitoring $17.1 billion in spending.

She created an Entrepreneurial STEM program with Dr. Ed Denton for the City of Detroit in 2011 and is now moving to NY / NJ demonstration sites for students’ grade 5 to 20.

Dr. Jackson donated books to Ms. Brandenburg, written by a Middle School young lady.  The young ladies had many questions for the guest speakers including their interest in engineering and science and how to pursue a career in law. 

South Plainfield Borough Council President Derryck White thanked the committee for continuing this rich and worthy tradition.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Four former South Plainfield high school students received a total of $9,325 in scholarships from the Adele DeLeeuw Scholarship Fund at a dinner held Tuesday, June 12th, at the Spain Inn in Piscataway.  The scholarships are financed by a bequest from Adele DeLeeuw, longtime Plainfield resident, author of 75 books, journalist and arts activist.
