Saint Joseph concluded its season at 16-9, surpassing the pre-season expectations, according to head coach Mike Carbone.

“We have had a lot of kids step up this year,” Carbone told TAPinto. “One of the highlights of the season was our one-point victory over Bridgewater-Raritan on January 25. That was a big win for us.”

Freshman Giovanni Alejandro was the winner at 106 lbs. for Saint Joseph. The Falcons had second place finishes from David Rosenfarb (120 lbs.), Vincent Genna (126 lbs.) and Gianni Principato (285 lbs.). Anthony Bistany, who won the first home match for Saint Joseph in last year’s return of the sport, finished third at 113 lbs.

Earlier in this month, in the NJSIAA South Jersey, Non-Public A Tournament, the Falcons defeated Red Bank Catholic, 42-34, in the quarterfinals before Christian Brothers defeated them, 57-19 in the semifinal round. Saint Joseph also had impressive wins against local rivals JFK - Iselin, East Brunswick, Highland Park, JP Stevens, and Colonia, as well as victories against Morris Catholic, Parsippany, Bayonne, Lyndhurst, New Providence, Carteret, Monmouth, Princeton and Wallkill Valley.
