SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - This past Sunday,  The  Central Jersey Team participated in the  annual League Tournament and brought home the First Place Trophy.  Historically, the competition has been tight but this year the boys dominated the field by a wide margin.  SP’s 1st place showing was trailed by Watchung Hill’s distant 2nd Place.

Ten Tigers advanced to the finals where three  SP wrestlers finished the season as League Champs!  Sixth graders, Danny Borsos, and  Andrew Loniewski  finished off their  season as League Champions.  Fourth Grader, Alex  Pigna,  took home the gold after pinning all of  his opponents, to earn his title as League Champion.

JJ Giordano (6th grade) , Danny Gonzalez (6th grade) , Joe Celentano ( 4th grade), Aldo Pigna (5th grade), Justus Neimeyer (6th), Nick Campagna (5th grade) and Adam Bowles (5th grade) battled it out, in the finals, but fell just short of the gold, taking home 2nd place.

This year, we had several 6th graders that brought  talent, heart and energy  to the team. Good Luck to the 6th graders who will be moving onto 7th grade. They will be greatly missed next year. We hope to see them, on the mat,  at  the Middle School.

In addition to ending the season as Central Jersey League Champions, our Central Jersey Team had a stellar season, with a 14-1 record, in dual bouts.

A very special thank you to  coaches  Jeff Jacome,  Dave Butrico, Adam Kaplan,  Dave Loniewski, Jimmy Geis, Joe Celentano and all of the volunteers who assist on the mat. The SP Youth Wrestling Program would not be the success that it is without these extraordinary volunteer coaches.  Many of the coaches have trained and mentored these boys since they were 5 years old providing a  positive impact on these student athletes  on and off  the mat.
