On Friday, May 11, members of the South Plainfield Middle School Music Department participated in the 2018 Music Showcase Festival. The students performed exceptionally well and brought home 17 awards. At this festival, the musical ensembles played for adjudication at the First Presbyterian Church and Bethlehem Catholic High School in Bethlehem, PA and then spent the rest of the day at Dorney Park. It was a beautiful day and the students had an excellent time!
The ensembles were given a rating and placement within each category. All ensembles earned a rating of Superior, which is the highest rating that can be achieved. The 8th Grade Orchestra received a 3th place award and received a special award for the cello section. Additionally, James Buchanan won a soloist award. The 8th Grade Band won 2nd place in the concert band division. They took home an award for the percussion section and Jessica Saravia won a soloist award on the timpani. The GEMS achieved 1nd place in the womens’ chorus division and Alyssa Rivera, Sara DeSimone, Ilyssa Muchinsky and Mary O’Dell won awards for outstanding solos. The 8th Grade Chorus achieved 1st place in the mixed chorus division and won awards for the alto section and the soprano section. The Chorus also won an award for the highest scoring choral group in the entire festival. Finally, the Percussion Ensemble won a first place award and received an award for the highest scoring instrumental group in the entire festival and received a perfect score of 100 out of 100.
Also attending the trip were 20 parent chaperones as well as Mrs. Veiss. Mr. Veiss, Mrs. Livecchi, and Dr. Kregler. The administration of the Middle School are very proud of the students’ accomplishments and expect them to continue to do well in the future.
