SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ- Acting on their commitment to the citizens of Middlesex County, Senator Patrick Diegnan, Assemblywoman Nancy Pinkin and Assemblyman Robert Karabinchak today announced that a new, modernized South Plainfield Agency is tentatively scheduled to open on Monday, May 14, 2018.
"I must complement the Motor Vehicle Commission for ending this potential crisis and express my appreciation for their resolve in re-establishing an office in South Plainfield as one of his top priorities,” said Senator Diegnan (D-Middlesex). “My constituents have been as adamant as I have been about re-opening a South Plainfield location and I look forward to the ribbon cutting.”
“I am thrilled that the Motor Vehicle Commission will be returning to South Plainfield,” said Assemblywoman Pinkin (D-Middlesex). “Our constituents have been adversely affected by the closure of the original facility; it’s a win-win for our residents and I look forward to the opening of the new facility.”
“I’d like to thank the MVC for heeding our call and listening to our constituents’ concerns,” said Assemblyman Karabinchak (D-Middlesex). “It will provide much needed relief for constituents not just in South Plainfield, but also in the rest of the district who already have to suffer through incredibly long lines.”
The previous South Plainfield Agency lease expired on May 31, 2017 when it was advised that the landlord of the property did not wish to renew the lease to the State of New Jersey. The result was that the previous South Plainfield Agency closed permanently on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. While many users of the South Plainfield office switched to the already high-volume Edison office on Kilmer Road, the MVC under Governor Christie’s administration suggested customers visit agencies as far away as Flemington, Somerville and South Brunswick because they experience lower volume and would minimize wait times and inconvenience.
The new agency is located at 5000 Hadley Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. The internal layout of the site was designed around our new business process to better serve our customers. The building supports improved technology with updated phone, data, and security wiring. In addition, the facility has additional agency counter windows and ID check stations, increased parking availability, and is easily accessible from Route 287.
