SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Staying fit and getting plenty of good exercise is a high priority at the South Plainfield Senior Center, located at 90 Maple Avenue in South Plainfield. Classes on health issues and a wide range of physical exercise are available almost daily.
The Walking Group meets every Friday, weather permitting, starting on May 18 and going through October. Participants meet at the Gazebo in Spring Lake Park at 9:00 a.m. Walkers enjoy the nice weather and camaraderie, strolling at their own pace. The Golf League plays at the West 9 course on Woodland Avenue in Edison every Tuesday. Members of the South Plainfield Senior Citizens team play in foursomes, and will be competing against other Senior Centers this year. There is a $20 fee that covers the weekly game and cart fee. New members are asked to sign up at the Senior Center.
Zumba classes are given on Mondays at 9:00 am and Thursdays at 10:15 am On Wednesdays at 1:00 pm Zumba Fit and Tone classes are offered. For those who enjoy Yoga, there are a variety of classes on Mondays at 10:30 am and Wednesdays at 10:00 am. Exercise with Greg on Wednesdays at 8:30 am, and Thursdays at 9:00 am and 1:15 pm. Tai Chi os offered on Wednesdays at 1:00 pm.
Finally, the Senior Center has been presenting an informative class called Healthy Bones for those who wish to learn more about keeping their bodies in great shape. There are two sections of the Healthy Bones series; one for beginners and another for more advanced students. Healthy Bones is offered on Fridays at 8:30 am during May.
