Come join us at the library for Monday Night Movies!  On November 6 at 6:30 PM, we will be showing a new comedy-drama starring Shirley MacLaine and Amanda Seyfried.  MacLaine plays a retired businesswoman who is determined to control everything around her, and she decides to write her own obituary the way she wants.  Seyfried, a journalist at the newspaper the obituary will be in, does not play along and works to find out the truth of her life.  If you cannot make it to our Monday night showing, it will also be shown on Wednesday, November 8 at 12:30 PM.  The movie is rated R. 

On Saturday, November 4 from 11:30 AM – 1 PM, the South Plainfield Public Library will be having a Diwali Celebration at the Senior Center located at 90 Maple Ave.  There will be crafts, food, music, dance, and more as we celebrate the Festival of Lights!  Ms. Varsha from Navrang Dance Co. will be giving Bollywood Dance lessons, so be sure to come by!  Please register for this fun-filled event.

Super Science Sunday is happening this Sunday, November 5 at 2 PM.  Join Ms. Stella as she teaches children 8 and older about the inner workings of a Dyson bladeless fan.  There will be a part 2 of this Super Science Sunday program on Sunday, November 12 at 2 PM.  Please register for these events as space is limited!

In case you can’t make it to our Super Science Sunday events, Ms. Jackie also has a STEAM program on Wednesday, November 8 at 3:30 PM for tweens 10 and older.  Please register to learn how to deconstruct and rebuild a Dyson vacuum.  The last part of this series will be on Wednesday, November 15 at 3:30 PM. 

Join Ms. Jackie for the library’s Second Annual Cupcake Wars this Tuesday, November 7 at 3:30 PM.  For tweens 10 and older, please register (as individuals or teams of four) to see who can decorate the best cupcakes!  All cupcakes and decorating materials will be provided, and no outside materials are allowed.  Space is limited so call us at (908) 754-7885 ext 4 or drop by the children’s room to sign up. 

On Thursday, November 9 at 6:30 PM, stop by for the Kid’s Corner Book Club for ages 8 to 10.  We will be discussing a Geronimo Stilton book called Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye.  Copies are available at the adult reference desk.

The Young Adult Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, November 16 at 7 PM to discuss the selection See You at Harry’s by Jo Knowles.  Copies are available at the adult reference desk.  This book club is intended for 7th graders and up, but books can be chosen that are appropriate for 5th and 6th graders as well.  If you have any questions, please call us at (908) 754-7885 ext 4 to speak to Ms. Audrey. 

As always, we will be having our regular storytime schedule.  There are storytimes for 2’s & 3’s Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 AM, storytimes for 3 and older Tuesday at 10:30 AM, Wednesday at 6:30 PM, and Thursday at 1:15 PM, and Babytimes for babies under 2 years old on Friday at 10:15 AM and 11:15 AM.  On Monday and Thursday at 3 PM, there is a Lego Builder’s Club for children 7 and older, and on Tuesday there is a Puzzles and Games program at 11:30 AM for children 3 and older (right after storytime!).  Meditation and Mindfulness with Ms. Aimee meets on Wednesday at 7:45 PM; it is for children 7-12 years old. 

We will be closed Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day, but we will be open Sunday, November 12 from 1:30-5 PM.
