Your library is a hub of education and entertainment that is available to you not just when the library is open, but at all hours, thanks to our great online resources.

If you want to brush up on your computer skills, or learn something new, try Learning Express.  You can access it through the library’s website. Once you’ve registered (you’ll need your library card) go to Computer Basics page. You’ll have access to dozens of tutorials on using popular software tools such as Word and Excel.

If you’d like some personal help with computer topics, schedule an appointment with one of the librarians.  Tell us what you’re interested in learning, and we’ll have an expert spend 45 minutes giving you personalized instruction.

Learning Express also links you to the Job and Career Accelerator.  You will be able to explore occupations and find tools to help you build a resume, write a cover letter, and hone your interview skills. There is also extensive information on colleges and graduate schools.

Personal job coach searching is also available on Mondays.  You just need to make an appointment to get assistance with interviewing, resumes and all job searching skills.

Our online resources are available to you every day, from home or from wherever you are. You can access them from the library as well, where you will also find special programs every day of the week.

Saturday, April 21 at 2:00 you will have a chance to “meet’ Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  He’ll be played by Neill Hartley (you’ve seen him in House of Cards).  Watch the president come to life as he starts his unprecedented third term in office in December, 1940. Learn what President Roosevelt was thinking as Nazi Germany blazed a path of destruction across Europe, and America was on the brink of war. This fully staged historical presentation will entertain and educate audiences from school age to adult.

Earlier that day, Saturday at 11:30, the Chess Club is meeting.  It is for people of all experience levels, ages 6 and up.  All players welcome!

Sunday April 22 is not just any Sunday—it’s Super Science Sunday. To celebrate Earth Day, we will be exploring environmental science. We'll learn about recycling and the water cycle, explore ways of taking care of the earth, and read about creating backyard habitats. You'll get to make a 'Jungle in a Bottle' Terrarium' to take home.  The fun starts at 2:00. Please register for this program.

Later on Sunday, there will be a Spanish/English bilingual storytime. Come at 4:00 to enjoy stories and songs, cuentos y canciones.

English conversation groups continue to meet every Monday at 10:30 and Tuesday at 1:00.  Practice speaking English in a small, convivial group. Learners at any level are invited to join either or both classes.

Monday afternoon at 1:30 there will be a Chinese/English storytime.  This bilingual program is good for children who speak Chinese, and also for those who would like to start learning the language.

Monday isn’t complete without our Monday Night Movie.  This week, you’ll enjoy Saoirse Ronan as she navigates her last year of high school and her relationship with her mother, played by Laurie Metcalf.  It starts at 6:30; popcorn will be served! The movie will also be shown on Wednesday at 12:30.

Are you interested in learning to code? Are you a student 10 years old or older? Join the Coding Dojo on Tuesday, April 24 at 3:30. Bring a laptop and learn the basics of computer programming.  Space is limited so please sign up in advance.

Put on your PJs and join us for a special bedtime storytime on Wednesday. The pajama party fun starts at 6:30. Bring a stuffed animal with you to leave overnight at the library. We’ll take photos of the merriment and mischief your soft friends get into overnight. Come back on Thursday to pick up your animal and hear all his adventures.

You can hear stories at all the regular times this week.  For children 4 and up, come Tuesday at 10:30 and Thursday at 1:15.  Twos and threes meet on Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30.  There are two groups on Friday for the littlest listeners at 10:00 and 11:00 Contact the staff in the children’s room for more information.

Thursday evening at 6:30 there will be a meeting of the Common Ground Support Group.  Common Ground is a monthly support group for parents and caregivers of individuals with special needs.

Rounding out the week is a springtime Kid Craft.  Come on April 27 at 3:00 for an afternoon of fun with paint. Space is limited and registration with the $1 materials fee is required.  Participants can choose from a selection of wood crafts to paint.

That’s the library for you—terrific online resources, great programs, and always plenty of books, movies and magazines to borrow.  Hope to see you soon!
