It stars Glenn Close, who is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for this role, as well as Jonathan Pryce, Max Irons, and Christian Slater. If you cannot make it to the Monday night showing, there is a second screening on Wednesday, February 13 at 12:30 PM. This movie is rated R.
On Sunday, February 10 at 2 PM, local author Thomas Berry will be at the South Plainfield Public Library for a presentation of his book Gifts of the Gods: Iron and Bronze. It is the first narrative in a trilogy centered on the Peloponnesian War between Sparta and Athens. Five men and women from different walks of life in Ancient Greece are set on a dangerous journey of self-discovery during the bitter conflict of the Peloponnesian War. They must adapt to their changing world while remaining true to themselves. Who will survive the war and what will their lives be like when it’s over? Are you looking to improve your English conversation skills? Native speakers of all languages are invited to join us at one of our English Conversation Groups. There are two groups you are welcome to join. One meets on Mondays at 10:30 AM, and the other meets on Thursdays at 1 PM. Check the calendar for all the meeting times and potential cancellations.
Girls, Goodies, and Great Adventures will meet Monday, February 11 at 3:30 PM to discuss the book Pony Pals: I Want a Pony by Jeanne Betancourt. This book club is for girls ages 8 to 12. Please read the selection before the meeting, and come ready to discuss it while enjoying some yummy snacks! Copies of the book are available at the Reference Desk.
Teens 13 and older are invited to join us for two screenings of the movie based on Angie Thomas’s book The Hate U Give. The movie will be shown Wednesday, February 13 at 3 PM and Friday, February 15 at 1 PM. The movie is rated PG-13. Popcorn will be served.
Looking for a date night for Valentine’s Day? Come to the library Thursday, February 14 at 7 PM for Rev Up Your Life with Plant-Based Superfoods. A vegetarian diet that is high in plant-based whole foods has many health benefits including more energy and increased stamina. Sue Rose, Vegetarian Lifestyle Coach, will be covering basic nutrition needs and how to add more nutrient dense foods to your daily menu in this informative workshop. Are you interested in practicing for the SATs? On Saturday, February 16 at 1 PM, join instructor Matthew Koerner from Top Notch Test Prep to take a practice version of the SAT test. And now for our regularly scheduled Children’s Programs: Spanish Storytime meets Monday nights at 6:30 PM, Italian Storytime meets Thursdays at 3:30 PM, and Chinese Storytime (for ages 5 to 7) meets Saturdays at 1:30 PM. Storytime for 3 and older meets Wednesdays at 6:30 PM, Time for 2’s & 3’s meets Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 AM, and Babytime for under 2 meets Fridays at 10:15 AM and 11:15 AM and Saturdays at 10:30 AM. Puzzles & Games meets Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11:30 AM (right after storytime!), and Lego Club meets on Thursdays at 3:30 PM.
