The South Plainfield Wrestling Team continues to be one of the better programs in the state of New Jersey. This week’s competition put the Tigers at 6-1 losing to the #8 state ranked team, Seton Hall Prep, while beating Pingry and Group II State Champions Delaware Valley. South Plainfield is currently # 12 in the State of New Jersey. A key part of the Tigers’ success this week and during the season is the efforts and contributions of 1o6 lb. freshman Anthony White.
After a solid recreation and middle school career South Plainfield was excited for Anthony to step into the Tiger’s varsity lineup. On the season Anthony holds a 9-0 record. He won the Morris Knolls Tournament beating a returning state qualifier in the finals by a score of 5-0. This past week, Anthony went 3-0, knocking off some top competition in the state. White started off his week dominating state qualifier Larry Melchionda from Seton Hall Prep by a score of 9-3. He also pinned Pingry’s Jason Petruzzi in 12 seconds and scored a 16-0 technical fall over Delaware Valley’s Derek Shepens. Anthony and the Tigers hope to keep continue their success traveling to the Boresch Duals this weekend where two top ten teams will be competing.
