Ashwin deGroot joined the Winter Track Program as a junior not knowing what to expect. The football athlete never touched the track except to step onto the grass. At the end of a cold winter season, however, Ashwin proved that he can excel in track, earning the team MVP in his rookie season. On the track, Ashwin dominated the shorter distances, running the 55, 200 and 400 meter dashes. At the Greater Middlesex Conference Championships, Ashwin ran against some of the best athletes in the state and finished 4th in the 400 meter dash. Ashwin’s determination anchored the boys’ 4 x 400 meter relay all season and helped lead the program to the Blue Division Relay and the GMC Blue Division Championships while earning himself All-Division honors. One of the big highlights of the season was Ashwin’s first trip to the Metropolitan Invitational in New York City. On the prestigious track of the Armory, Ashwin blasted his way to a bronze medal in the 200 meter dash and then pushed past two teams to propel the 4 x 400 relay to 3rd. It was a fantastic junior year for Ashwin and we look forward to a stellar senior season.
