The South Plainfield High School baseball team had another outstanding season with a record of 18-9. This past week, the Tigers began their run for a Sectional Championship. They won the first round game against eighth seeded Delaware Valley 3-0. South Plainfield has been led by senior pitcher, Christopher Shine.
The Tigers had their ace, Chris Shine, on the mound against Delaware Valley. Shine threw a three hit shutout in South Plainfield’s victory. He had nine strikeouts to only one walk in the seven innings he worked. On the season his record is currently 7-1. He has pitched to a fantastic 0.40 earned run average over 52.1 innings. On the season he has 84 strikeouts to only 27 hits. Chris has four shutouts in his seven wins. Chris also contributes offensively. Currently he has a .361 batting average with 1 homerun and 18 runners batted in (RBIs). South Plainfield will miss Chris Shine as he will continue his baseball career at Seton Hall University.
