The South Plainfield Wrestling Team finished its terrific season this past weekend at the New Jersey Individual State Wrestling Championships. The top four wrestlers from the Region Tournament in Union had the opportunity to wrestle in Atlantic City for an individual state title. The Tigers placed two out of their six qualifiers in the State of New Jersey, Senior 126 pounder Joe Heilmann became a 3x state place winner by finishing as the runner-up in the State of New Jersey.
Joe Heilmann finished another fantastic season. His record was an impressive 44-1, which brings his career total to an amazing 164-11. Joe started the season winning the Morris Knolls Tournament Title. He also won the Greater Middlesex Conference Championship for the fourth consecutive year. Joe Heilmann was a major factor to the success that South Plainfield had in the post season. He went 5-0 during the week to help the Tigers win the Group III State Championship for the third year in a row. Joe started his quest for Atlantic City with his fourth District Championship and then finished with his second Region Championship. This made Joe a 3x State Qualifier. In Atlantic City Joe had an outstanding tournament. He won his first four matches to get him in the state final for the first time in his career. Heading to North Carolina University next year, Joe will surely be missed in the Tigers line-up.
