
The South Plainfield Wrestling Team sent six wrestlers to compete in the New Jersey Individual State Wrestling Championships, March 2nd-4th. Thirty-two wrestlers throughout the state qualified for each weight class. South Plainfield placed two out of the six qualifiers in the State of New Jersey. Junior 195 pounder Luke Niemeyer became a state place winner for the first time in his career, finishing 5th in the State of New Jersey.
Luke Niemeyer had another outstanding season after his break out sophomore year. During his junior year Luke finished 41-6. This brings his career mark to an impressive 83-13. Luke started the season winning his first Morris Knolls Tournament Title. He then went on to win the Greater Middlesex Conference Championship for the second year in a row. Luke helped the Tigers win their third consecutive State Championship with a 3-2 win over a returning state place winner in the Group III final against Delsea. Luke started his goal for Atlantic City with his second District Championship XIV Title and then finished 3rd at Region 4. This made Luke a 2x State Qualifier. In Atlantic City Luke had a fantastic tournament. He finished 5-2 in the tournament to earn 5th. Only a junior, the Tigers will be looking for Luke to continue his dominance in the upper weights.
