The South Plainfield Wrestling Team continues to have a very successful season. The team not only won a Group III State Championship for the third consecutive year, but they also won a state record 34th consecutive District Championship. The top three wrestlers will go on to compete in Union in the Regions for the opportunity to wrestle in Atlantic City for an individual state title. South Plainfield advanced an impressive eleven out of fourteen weight classes to the regions. Junior 160 pounder Marc Giordano made major contributions to the teams’ dominance this season.
Marc Giordano is having a great junior season after taking two years off from the sport. He currently has a record of 24 wins to 13 losses. Marc started the season finishing sixth in the Morris Knolls Tournament. He also placed seventh in the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament. Marc Giordano continued to improve as the season went on and saved his best wrestling for the end of the season. Marc went 5-0 for the Tigers on the way to their State Championship win. He collected two falls for South Plainfield in both the semifinals and finals of the Group Championships. Marc started his goal of making it to the Individual State Tournament in Atlantic City with a District XIV Championship, winning all three of his matches to take the title. With Marc only being a junior the team will continue to rely on him next season.
