In the round of 16, he would defeat Rahway’s Joshua Darisme by a score of 2-1 placing him into the quarterfinals of the tournament for the 3rd time of his career. In the semi-finals Zach battled Niccolo Collucci of St. Peter’s Prep School and escaped with 1 second left on the clock in the Ultimate Tie-Breaker to advance to the finals for the first time in his career. In the finals Zach drew Garfield’s Michael Filieri and jumped out to an early 4-0 lead using a body lock for a takedown and two point near fall. Zach never looked back as he dominated his opponent by a score of 8-2. He became the Tigers first State Champion since 2013 when his older brother Scott DelVecchio and Anthony Ashnault were crowned champions. Congratulations to Zach on becoming the 12th State Champion in the program’s illustrious history.
