The Suburban Woman's Club of South Plainfield began celebrating the holiday season on December 3rd with its annual Theater Party at the Historical Edison Valley Playhouse. At a sold-out performance, the audience was treated to “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown,” a delightful and heartwarming musical.
Continuing with the holiday spirit, the Club donated to “Boatsie’s Boxes,” Christmas stockings filled with delicious treats and personal items which are sent to servicemen and women overseas by the NJ State Federation of Women’s Clubs. Diana Cotone and Treasurer Lucy Hudson brought 10 stockings to NJSFWC Headquarters. A total of 1,647 stockings were donated by NJSFWC Clubs around the State. In addition, Home Life Chair Terri Wilkinson created Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets which the Club donated to needy families through South Plainfield Social Services.
On December 7th the Club held its monthly meeting at the American Legion Hall. Before calling the meeting to order, Club President Diana Cotone introduced Dr. Donna Kregler, Director of Choral Activities at the South Plainfield High School, who led 45 students of the Choral Group in an hour-long repertoire of Christmas songs and carols, enthralling and delighting the audience.
President Cotone asked Membership Chair Grace Bertucci to formally welcome newly installed members Helene Antunes-Wilson, Harsha Parekh, Rose Marie Pelton, and April Wasnick, as well as seven guests. President Cotone thanked Chrissy Buteas for updating and printing the Club’s yearbooks. Education Chair Debbie Boyle reminded members that the Spelling Bee for fourth and fifth graders will be held on January 23rd at 6:00 PM at the Senior Center. Hospitality Chair Diana Gallo thanked Grace Bertucci and Debbie Vokral for the delicious refreshments they provided for the meeting.
After the business meeting, the Club recognized three ladies not officially members but daughters of current members, who have given their talent, time, and treasure to support the Club’s activities. President Cotone awarded a NJ State Federation of Women’s Clubs “Volunteer Pin” to Ann Marie Butrico, Diane Petercsak and Jennie Spear.
