South Plainfield Library Presents: The Sixties: A Motown Story

South Plainfield Public Library welcomes back Vincent Bruno who will present The Sixties: A Motown Story on Saturday September 7 at 1pm. Rock historian Vincent Bruno will present a lecture that will explore how the “Motown Sound” was created and how it has become a worldwide phenomenon beloved by millions.  Motown, established by Berry Gordy in 1960, has been described as the greatest pop music hit factory in recording history. From the “hit machine” songwriting teams to the in-house studio band to the extraordinary roster of recording artists including Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, The Supremes, Four Tops, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and countless others.  The influence of the house that Gordy built is still standing with 201 No. 1 worldwide hits and counting. Slides and audio clips will enhance this lecture. This program is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Vincent Bruno is a Beatles Scholar and Sixties Rock Historian.  He recently retired as Director of First Year Programs at LaGuardia Community College (City University of New York).  He holds an MPA from Baruch College. For the past 17 years he has lectured extensively on The Beatles and The Sixties at universities, colleges, libraries and community centers.
