South Plainfield Public Library presents In Nietzsche's Footsteps

On Thursday, June 26 at 6:30pm, the South Plainfield Public Library welcomes Jonathan R. Cohen, professor of philosophy at the University of Maine at Farmington who will talk about his book “In Nietzsche’s Footsteps”.  He took the trip of a lifetime when he visited three of Nietzsche’s favorite places—and took his wife and four children with him.  Along the way, he considers the contrast between being an individual, as his subject prescribes, and nurturing the bonds that make life worth living, chiefly those we have with family. Cohen does not have such an impressive mustache, but his writing is clear and accessible.  He explains many of Nietzsche’s key concepts in a relatable and cogent manner and describes what it means to be a philosopher.

He will be reading from his book and sharing some of his photographs of Nice, France, Turin, Italy, and Sils-Maria, Switzerland. Students of philosophy, travelers, and anyone who is part of a family will be educated and engaged. This program is presented free.  Books will be available for purchase.
