Mario Guido Abbruzzese, 70, died on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born in Plainfield, Mario had been a lifelong resident of South Plainfield.
A veteran of the US Army, Mario served during Vietnam and received his honorable discharge in 1968.
Being a lifelong resident of South Plainfield, Mario served the borough in several capacities. He worked for the Public Works Department, Office of Emergency Management and currently serving as the borough Code Enforcement Officer.
A life member of the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department, Mario served as Past Deputy Chief. He was a member of the South Plainfield Exempt Firemen’s Association as well as a life member of the NJ State Firemen’s Association, member of the American Legion and former member of the Lion’s Club.
Outside of his borough employment, Mario was also a skilled mason and was a former owner and operator of Triple D Construction based in South Plainfield. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and close friends.
Predeceased by his parents; Guido and Mildred Abbruzzese and brother; Guido Jr., Mario is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years; Maureen (Robustelli) Abbruzzese, loving daughter; Ranee Abbruzzese – and her husband Alejandro of Camden, six sisters; Denise Figueroa and her husband Jose, Bernadette Thimons and Sandra Holowka all of South Plainfield, Anna Marie Santiago and her husband Manuel of Jamesburg, Erminia Dunn and her husband Henry of Sayreville and Marion Durnya and her husband Thomas of South River. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 9AM in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
Entombment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, South Plainfield.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 4-8PM in the funeral home.
