Several South Plainfield Middle School students participated in the Central Jersey Music Educators’ Association Region II Intermediate Band, Chorus, and Orchestra Auditions on January 25, 2020 at Community Middle School in Plainsboro, New Jersey.  There were approximately 850 band, chorus, and orchestra students from Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset, and Union counties who auditioned for these ensembles.  The students had to learn a solo, memorize scales, and perform a small sight-reading excerpt.  The students were competing for an opportunity to perform with the Region II Concert Band, Chorus, or Orchestra.  The Region groups rehearse in various places throughout central New Jersey to prepare for their upcoming concerts.

This year, the following South Plainfield students were selected for the groups.  Nina DeSimone made the Symphonic Band on trumpet; Kaitlyn Pascale made the Percussion Ensemble on Mallets; Allison Buchanan made the String Orchestra on violin; Gabriella Ettore, Christopher Cardinale, and Isabella Rogus were selected for the treble choir.  Katrina Rasmussen, Sophia Colucci, Salma Elgabally were selected for the mixed choir.  Isabella Rogus was the highest scoring soprano II and Sophia Colucci was the highest scoring auditioning student in the chorus.  Additionally, Nina DeSimone and Allison Buchanan also auditioned and made the chorus, but they cannot participate in both ensembles.

The concert for the band will be on Sunday, March 1 at Bridgewater Middle School. The concert for the chorus and percussion ensemble will be on Sunday, March 8 at Monroe High School.  The Orchestra Concert will be on Saturday, February 29 at Clinton Township Middle School. This year, South Plainfield Middle School Band Director, Mr. Veiss will have the honor of conducting the CJMEA Intermediate Percussion Ensemble.

Mr. Veiss, Mrs. Livecchi, Mrs. Haughwout and the middle school community are very proud of the accomplishments of all the students who auditioned!
