South Plainfield to Deck the Halls at 5th Annual Christmas in July Street Fair

South Plainfield's 5th Annual Christmas in July event will take place in the borough's downtown on Saturday, July 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – South Plainfield’s 5th Annual Christmas in July street fair will take place this Saturday (rain date Sunday, July 30). The event, which will run along South Plainfield Avenue from Front Street to Old Hamilton Boulevard, will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature entertainment, vendors, giveaways, contests, food, and more, including several new activities and contests.

This year’s Christmas in July, which will kick off with a parade led by Santa and the South Plainfield Marching Band, led by Santa, is being sponsored by the Borough of South Plainfield along with the South Plainfield Business Association (SPBA), and South Plainfield Business Advisory Group (BAG) with support from Rev. Jesse Nietzer, pastor of First Baptist Church and a committee chaired by residents Cathy Herman and Jill Ryan.

Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to lunch or snack at the downtown’s various eateries, enjoy music provided throughout the day by Magic 98.3, shop with more than 70 vendors, and check out performances by the South Plainfield’s Summer Drama Workshop and the South Plainfield High School Color Guard. Additionally, swag bags, available at SPBA booth, will be given away to the first 150 adults and first 100 children (one per family) while supplies last.

“This year, Christmas in July will feature several new and returning vendors as well as some new and exciting events and activities for the whole family,” said Ryan, adding, “I am looking forward to a successful fifth year.”

The event will also feature a variety of activities for children, including face painting by the South Plainfield High School Color Guard, a water balloon toss, hula hoop contest, and, new this year, a portable race car track where kids (and adults) can race a remote control car around the track.

“RC2U Portable Racing will be bringing a portable racetrack where children and adults can take their turns at racing,” said Herman, adding, “There is no cost to race thanks to our sponsors who purchased bodies for the cars which paid for the track to be there for the entire day.”

Christmas in July will also feature the annual window decorating contest (prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place) as well as two new contests. New this year, will be an Ugliest Christmas T-shirt contest at 1:30 p.m. with prizes in two age groups (infant to 12 years and 13 years to adult) as well as a pie-throwing contest at 2:30 p.m. featuring Mayor Matt Anesh and the Borough Council with proceeds benefiting the South Plainfield Food Pantry.

Additionally, throughout the day, there will be a tricky tray sponsored by the South Plainfield Boosters; and Shirley Thompson's Christmas will hold a bake sale to raise funds to purchase items for families in need this holiday season.

“Come out and enjoy the day with family and friends and support all the vendors and stores in our downtown this Saturday,” said Herman.
