SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – At Twin City Pharmacy & Surgical, a new, expanded prescription area will be in place by weeks' end with additional renovations at the Park Avenue business continuing through the summer.

“Twin City Pharmacy is growing. We are very excited about our plans and anticipate a much better space for us and our customers," said co-owner Sandy Cassio, who, along with her cousin, Tom Cassio, and brother-in-law Bill Ashnault, has run the family-owned business since 2007.

In 2016, Twin City, a family-owned and run business in South Plainfield for the past 48 years, acquired the space formerly occupied by Park Avenue Cleaners. In early 2019, plans to expand were developed with construction taking place since early 2020. Once complete, Twin City will feature an additional 1,000 square feet of customer space.

The pharmacy area, a 144-square-foot space formerly located at the back of the building, has been relocated to the side and will boast more than 350-square-feet to better support Twin City's expanding pharmacy lines.

"This will more than double the current space and also meet the new requirements of physical distancing," said Cassio.

"The new pharmacy area will be state-of-the-art and enable us room to offer additional services such as unit packaging for medication management and patient consultations," said Ashnault, who is also pharmacist-in-charge.

Through the project, renovations were also made to the basement formerly utilized by the cleaners. The space now features a conference room and work spaces along with labs.

"One is negative pressure to accommodate for compounding hazardous materials such as pain management and hormone replacement therapies. The other is outfitted with a HEPA filtered laminar flow hood. Both will increase the safety for our staff and bring the pharmacy to the cutting edge of pharmacy compounding," said Ashnault, adding, "There is also a conference room and work areas for staff use to communicate with patients via phone to offer counseling and medication management."

Over the coming weeks, interior renovations will continue with the home medical equipment and surgical supply area relocated and expanded to where the former prescription area once was. Additionally, an ADA-complaint restroom for customers will also be constructed. Over-the-counter items, first-aid supplies, vitamins, and other products will continue to be sold.

"The expanded space will allow for maximum exposure of product lines and less cluttered work areas," said Cassio. "It will also improve the visual appearances and add much-needed breathing room to its work and sales floor areas."

During renovations, Twin City Pharmacy & Surgical Supply remains open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
