WATCHUNG, NJ – Come the new year, Pilates Design Studio will serve as the host site for the Body Arts and Science International’s (BASI) Apparatus Training Program. The Watchung-based studio, owned by Danielle Conner of Green Brook, will be the only location in state to hold the intensive certification program.

“These workshops are geared specifically toward anyone interested in becoming a certified instructor through Body Arts and Science International,” said Conner, adding that BASI is designed to teach the Pilates method and principles, along with proper execution of the repertoire, anatomy, programming for clientele, cueing, movement efficiency, and more. “All of this will enable instructors to become strong and proficient teachers of the method.”

Rael Isacowitz, a pioneer of the Pilates method. Founded both the BASI Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Course (CTTC) and the BASI Matwork Teacher Training Course (MTTC) in 1989.  Today, BASI Pilates is recognized internationally for setting the highest standards in Pilates education, offering a truly comprehensive program that covers classic repertoire on all Pilates equipment and mats as well as contemporary insight into the work.

The complete BASI Apparatus Training Program being held at Pilates Design Studio consists of four intensive weekend workshops; Mat Working Training and Foundation Apparatus Training will take Feb. 17-Feb. 19 and March 10-12 with the Comprehensive Apparatus Training program running April 21-23 and May 19-21.

Students may choose to take only the Foundation Training, which covers essential Pilates equipment and mat exercises, however, those interested in becoming a professional Pilates instructor should complete both the Foundation and Comprehensive Training Programs for a complete understanding of the BASI Pilates system.

According to Conner, what works for one person may not work for another and BASI trained instructors have the skills to develop personalized and differentiated instruction tailored to meet a client’s specific needs. “Completion of these programs will provide instructors with the skills, techniques and knowledge necessary to design programs for individuals and group classes,” she said.

Conner, who herself is certified in BASI, is excited about bringing this intensive program to her Watchung studio. “It has brought me great success not just for my own body but to all of my clients as well,” she said. “It is a very well rounded, well-versed program based on anatomy and movement principals and it is fantastic for anyone’s body, regardless of whether they are turning to Pilates.”

Students must register separately for the Foundation and Comprehensive Training and attendance at all four of the weekend workshops is required to be eligible to become a certified Pilates instructor.
