SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Flu season is quickly approaching and Twin City Pharmacy and Surgical is prepared to provide vaccines to members of the community ages four and up. The Park Avenue pharmacy accepts most private health coverages (a co-pay may be required, depending on the insurance) and vaccines are free for Medicare-eligible seniors.

Right now, we have a very good supply and anyone who is interested in getting should call and make an appointment," co-owner and Pharmacist-in-Charge Bill Ashnault told TAPinto South Plainfield, noting that, to-date, over 100 vaccines have already been administered.

Twin City will administer vaccines Monday through Friday, by appointment only; one must register in advance by calling the pharmacy at (908) 755-7696. Those who do not have insurance or whose coverage will not pay for the flu vaccine, can get the shot at a cost of $34.99. Additionally, Twin City will be running an event offering free vaccines to eligible Medicare seniors on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the South Plainfield Senior Center; contact the senior center staff at (908) 754-1047 for sign-up and more information about this event.

According to Ashnault, a flu vaccine may not prevent someone from getting sick but it will provide them with some immunity to the virus. "It alleviates the severity of the flu infection in the body and provides the body a better chance of fighting it off," he said. "Someone who got the vaccine may still have flu symptoms but they will not be as debilitating."

Additionally, this year, due to COVID-19, Ashnault recommends getting vaccinated more than ever. "We recommend everyone get the flu shot, the sooner the better," he said. "It's possible that someone who gets the vaccine could have more immunity than someone who doesn’t."
