SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The Lions Club of South Plainfield will hold a ‘Salute to the Military’ fundraiser will be held Saturday, July 13. Scheduled to take place at Veterans Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event is being sponsored by A-Tech Landscaping with proceeds benefiting the Wounded Warriors Project.
“We met with all different branches of our military and are hopeful they will bring all different vehicles and pieces of equipment down that day,” said the club’s president Mike Zushma, noting that the Navy, Army, National Guard, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard are all scheduled to participate. “We want to celebrate the military and are hopeful the community will, too, and that we will have a good turn out.”
The ‘Salute to the Military’ fundraiser will kick off at 10 a.m. with the singing of the National Anthem and Color Guard from South Plainfield’s American Legion Chaumont Post 243. Admission into the event is free, however, donations are welcome and tickets for rides and slides, provided by the South Plainfield Rescue Squad will be available for purchase as will food serve up by the Lions Club. Throughout the day, there will also be prizes and games and the first 500 people will receive free patriotic hats and American Flags.
According to Zushma, proceeds from food sales as well as donations received at the door will benefit the Wounded Warriors Project. “This year, we are supporting to Wounded Warriors; it is a great cause,” he said. “These are men and women who served us as members of the military and need out help.”
