SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ- At a June 18 meeting, South Plainfield Mayor Matt Anesh and the Borough Council proclaimed June 17 through June 23 as ‘Amateur Radio Week’ and asked all residents to extend their appreciation and respect to the community’s amateur radio operators.
South Plainfield Amateur Radio Club (SPARC) will be participating in the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) annual Field Day Exercise on Saturday, June 23 from 2 pm thru 2 pm on Sunday, June 24 in Spring Lake Park. The field day is a 24-hour emergency preparedness exercise and demonstration of the amateurs radio operator’s’ skills and readiness to provide self-supporting communications without further infrastructure being required.
“It is truly amazing what these guys are capable of …and I encourage everyone if you have the opportunity to go out to Spring Lake and take a look at what they do. You will be amazed by the setup…” said Mayor Anesh.
The ARRL has celebrated over a century of broadcasting the human voice over the airwaves and has provided countless hours of community services both in emergencies and to other local organizations throughout the decades.
