SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - For the 2018-19 school year, the Roosevelt PTO held several fundraising events, including their Designer Bag Bingo, Gertrude Hawk Candy Sales, and the Harlem Wizards town-wide event to help raise funds for new equipment. These events were also supported by community sponsors such as Unity Bank, TAP into South Plainfield, Wealth Management, Twin City Pharmacy, Della Electric Enterprises, Mr. Subs, The Moretti Team Real Estate, and McCriskin Funeral Home.

As a result, the basketball hoops on the blacktop were upgraded with brand-new backboards and hoops. The playground now has a new set of swings.

"Our PTO works hard to make sure the kids are provided with the items that are not typically covered with our tax dollars,” said Leliani Obligacion, PTO President. “We noticed there was always a line for the swings at play time and after school. By adding an extra set of swings and two new basketball hoops, more children will have more time playing, and less time waiting. We are really happy about the new additions!"   Obligacion added that the PTO has also subsidized field trip buses, assemblies, safety blinds for all of the classrooms, and technology items such as Smart Boards.

Roosevelt's first event of the year featuring the new playground iequipment was held last week, as the school held its annual New Student Orientation. This event brings parents and children together in the playground area to meet their new teachers and students and to get acquainted with the Roosevelt School's policies. PTO members meet with the parents in small groups to go over all the basics and answer questions. “The evening ended with the Kona Ice Truck, which was appreciated by both parents and children,” said Obligacion.

Roosevelt welcomed their new principal, Dr. Goman during the social.  Dr. Goman previously worked at Grant School. "Thank you to the PTO for the donation of our new playground equipment. Our students will enjoy this equipment for years to come,” said Goman. “I am excited to work with the PTO so that we can continue to add resources to improve the educational environment at Roosevelt School. Also thank you to the PTO for a wonderful Kindergarten Social, a fun filled, informative night for our students and parents."
