SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – There’s a lot going on at the future site of Angelina’s Tavern with new owner Giovanni Cerbone hoping to open shortly.
Last month, Cerbone purchased 2501 Plainfield Avenue – the former site of Flanagan’s Restaurant and Pub – and its liquor license and immediately got to work renovating the longtime community establishment.
According to Cerbone, the restaurant was in need of more than just a fresh coat of paint. When Angelina’s officially opens, it will boast everything from new flooring, lighting, and fresh paint to an updated bar, large flat-screen televisions, and all new kitchen equipment plus the addition of a wood-burning oven.
Cerbone owned and ran Ciros Pizza in Warren for 12 years, but sold the business in 2018 with the hopes of opening a restaurant and bar. When the Flanagan’s site became available, the Bridgewater resident saw it as the perfect location.
Along with an everyday menu featuring authentic Italian appetizers and entrees, tavern dishes, and specialty drinks, Angelina’s will offer daily lunch and dinner specials as well as homemade bread and specialty pizza.
“We will serve fresh and authentic Napolitano cuisine,” said Cerbone. “Everything will be homemade and our specials will always change because nothing will be frozen.”
Angelina’s – which Cerbone named after his mother and daughter – will be family run. Patrons can expect to see Cerbone, along with his father, Antonio, and siblings on a regular basis.
“My goal is be a family-owned and operated restaurant that everyone – from kids to adults - can enjoy,” Cerbone. who has family residing in South Plainfield, said, adding that he is looking forward to the restaurant opening and meeting residents from the community.
“I want to be a big part of this community and want people to feel at home when they are eating here," he told TAPinto South Plainfield.
