SOUTH PLAINFIELD -- South Plainfield Elks Lodge #2298 held their annual Installation of Officers on Sunday April 8th during a ceremony at the Elks Lodge, located at 1254 New Market Ave.

Elks members had the opportunity to vote for the positions of Secretary, Treasurer, Trustees and Exalted Ruler.  The ceremony marked the official installation of each station.  Past State President and Grand Lodge Committeeman Pete Smith, officers and trustees installed the Lodge’s new Exalted Ruler, Christine Sauer.  The position of honor holds with it the responsibility of leading the South Plainfield Elks Lodge.

“I might have become the Exalted Ruler today,” said Sauer.  “But that is just one job.  The success of a charitable organization is made up of many individuals.”

The event officially installed elected members to fill positions for the upcoming fraternal year.  Sandi Smith was elected as Secretary and Carol Macellara as Treasurer.  Positions of Trustee were also decided with a vote.  The new Five Year Trustee is now Bill Reuter (Past District Deputy).  The Four Year Trustee is Ray Horvath (Past Exalted Ruler).  The Three Year Trustee is Rich Salvatore and the Two Year Trustee is Tim Kelly.

Those who have been longtime members of the organization are confident that the newly installed leaders will carry on the Elks’ tradition of service and esteemed values.

“The membership will see the growth of our Lodge through the hard work and dedication of the incoming officers led by Exalted Ruler Christine Sauer,” said Smith. “The knowledge of our Order for our Lodge is in very capable hands.”

As her first act as Exalted Ruler, Sauer chose members to fill several stations of leadership within the organization.  Janice Campos, who had been the Elks Exalted Ruler for the past year, was chosen as Leading Knight.  Dan Uken (Past Exalted Ruler), was chosen as Loyal Knight.  Eileen Uken became Lecturing Knight.  Tom Browne is now Esquire, Janice Dube was chosen as Chaplin, Paul Leepin is Tiler, and Margaret Williams was chosen as Inner Guard.

Recently celebrating 150 years of dedication to communities nationwide, the Elks is an organization that strives to help the community.  According to Elks officials, the organization is always looking for ways to assist senior citizens, veterans, disabled and countless others who are in need.  They also have a special place in their hearts for children with disabilities and veterans. With humble vigilance, the Elks watch over the community.

“The dedication to our community and charitable works will continue to grow,”  added Smith.  “We hope that our community will join us as the premier charitable organization in our community.”
