SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – In effort to help the community and keep those in the front line out of harms way during the coronavirus crisis, Durham Pharmacy last week donated 500 face masks to the Borough of South Plainfield.

On March 20, South Plainfield Police Det. Lt. Wendell Born stopped by the pharmacy to accept the donation from owner Ajay Goswami. The masks, which the pharmacy is not selling to the public, will help keep borough police officers, EMTs, health officers, fire department members, and other essential borough employees safe.

“These are the people who actually need them because they are at risk of being exposed more,” Ajay Goswami, owner of the Durham Avenue pharmacy, told TAPinto South Plainfield, noting that future stock of the 3-ply face masks will also be donated. “We are not going to sell them and will donate them to the people who need them the most. Not everyone needs a mask; we are appealing to the public to stay home.”

An essential business during this time, Durham Pharmacy remains open, however, out of the safety of its customers and staff, Goswami said they are operating behind closed doors. “There are so many people walking around all over the parking lot, carrying out their business. We want to safeguard our staff,” he told TAPinto. “Our employees have to work – they cannot work from home – and we have to be safe and not have everyone coming through the pharmacy doors.”

Those needing to have a new prescription filled or an existing one renewed can call it in or drop it off in a lock box outside the pharmacy for curbside or same-day home delivery. Additionally, Durham also stocks other essentials that can be brought out to the car or delivered as well.

Durham Pharmacy is located at 124 Durham Avenue; prescriptions and requests for other pharmacy items can be called in to (908) 548-8224. Information is also being posted on the pharmacy’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/DurhamPharmacy/).
