SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The South Plainfield School District last week announced two initiatives to honor all community members who are continuing to serve the public during the coronavirus crisis.

“We wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our frontline heroes and honor anyone and everyone who is still out there working and serving,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Noreen Lishak, noting that the initiatives are to recognize not only members of the police, fire, and rescue service but also doctors and nurses as well as custodians, truck drivers, and those who work for the postal service, utility companies, pharmacies, and grocery stores, in food services and more. “There are so many people still out there through all of this.”

Through the ‘Wall of Tribute,’ residents are encouraged to send in a photo of their ‘hero’ along with details – name and occupation are both required –  to the district up until midnight on Tuesday, April 7. Families are welcome to be in the photos, which will be posted on the district’s website and Facebook page.

Additionally, on Wednesday, April 8, the district will host a ‘Hats Off to Our South Plainfield Heroes’ event. At 6:30 p.m., residents of all ages are encouraged to go outside and record themselves holding up a ‘thank you’ sign and tipping off their hat to our heroes. Videos can be uploaded to the district’s website and will be used in a compilation video. ‘Thank You’ and ‘Hats Off’ templates are also available on the district’s website or residents can create their own.

“We are so fortunate to have our front line heroes out there during this health crisis, ensuring that we are safe and healthy and have what we need to make it through,” said Superintendent Dr. Noreen Lishak. “We want to show our appreciation in some small way and let them know how much we are truly grateful for all of our essential workers.”
