SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The tossing and rumbling is coming to an end! Anyone that takes Front Street to Metuchen Road knows what we are writing about. The Front Street rail crossing, in recent years has become a short version of the “Rocky Road to Hana”. Hold on to that coffee and your hat because the pot holes and rails jar any and all vehicles attempting to cross. Councilman Robert Bengivenga announced at the last Borough Council meeting Conrail has agreed to fix the crossing in the beginning of August.

On Friday the signs went up to the delight of Borough residents and commuters. The Front Street rail crossing will be closed beginning August 5, 2019. The closure is expected to last four to five days weather permitting. Travelers using Front Street should use the Lakeview Overpass as the Alternate.

"I want to thank Conrail for their continued dialogue with the Borough," said Councilman Bengivenga. "Two years ago we met to discuss New Brunswick Ave and this summer all three major crossings will be completely repaired. Conrail has proven to be a partner with our community and we look forward to working with them in the future."
