SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — Dennis Little a fixture of South Plainfield Republican politics and County Government passed away early Saturday morning after a long illness. Little’s passing was announced by South Plainfield Mayor Matthew P. Anesh during his annual Borough address to somber groans to those in attendance.
“Former South Plainfield Councilman and County Clerk Dennis Little passed away earlier this morning,” said Anesh. “He was a mentor to many of us here at the dais and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family.”
Little a former South Plainfield Councilman and the last republican Middlesex County Clerk was beloved by people on both sides of the aisle. Little served as the Middlesex County Clerk until 1995. As Republican Party Chairman, Little led the resurgence of the Republican Party in both South Plainfield and Middlesex County in the 1980’s and early 1990’s.
“Dennis was not only a mentor, but a wonderful friend,” said former South Plainfield Council President Linda Dashuta. “To look at him, one would think he was the toughest guy going, but anyone who knew him, knew he was a gentle giant who had a heart of gold who always wanted to please everyone. He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched.”
Although Little served on Council nearly three decades ago he stayed in touch with local issues and forged close relations with a number of recent and current Council members. In particular, Little in recent years became close friends with former Council President Raymond Rusnak. “Dennis was such a great mentor to me during my nine years on Council,” said Rusnak. “He became a dear friend of mine, and will be sorely missed.”
“Dennis Little was a dear friend and a republican colleague who provided invaluable advice and direction throughout my Council, Mayoral and Freeholder campaigns,” said former South Plainfield Mayor Michael Woskey. “He touched many lives over the years at the local, county and state levels and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and political colleagues on both sides of the aisle.”
