Holy Savior Academy has begun its Season of Giving with three traditional initiatives that allow faculty, students and families to support those in need.
Our Veterans Day collection serves the NJ Veterans Memorial Home at Menlo Park. This campaign, spearheaded each year by our school nurse, Mrs. Pinto, provides the students and faculty an opportunity to discuss the importance of giving back to our Veterans. A wish list of items was provided to our students and families. Students are asked to bring their donations to the school and Mrs. Pinto will deliver the items to the Veterans Home. “All of our children are reminded continually of all of the wonderful gifts that God has given them and how truly blessed they are. When asked to remember those less fortunate than they are, the response is always tremendous! It doesn't matter if it is a $1.00 Dress Down for our Veterans or a donation of food for a family in need, all give from their heart,” according to Mrs. Woodburn, Principal of Holy Savior Academy.
Holy Savior Academy will also be hosting a Food Drive during the month of November. We have teamed up with South Plainfield Social Services to help local families in need. Each grade is assigned a specific item from canned goods to cleaning products as well as personal items such as toothpaste, shampoo, etc…
In addition, Holy Savior Academy will sponsor a Christmas Giving Tree to benefit families in our immediate area that are in need of assistance. We will be collecting clothing, toys, games, winter outerwear, etc. Once we return from the Thanksgiving break, our students will be able to select an ornament or ornaments with a specific item listed on it from the tree. Our goal is to have 100% family participation to truly show what a difference we can make. “Each year during the Christmas season, my two sons look forward to selecting an ornament from the Giving Tree. The items that are requested are usually simple gifts, such as a book for 4-year-old boy or a shirt for a 10-year-old girl, but my sons like to imagine what kind of book a 4-year-old boy would enjoy or what kind of shirt a 10-year-old girl would like to wear when we go shopping. Once they select their gifts, they are proud of themselves for helping a family that is less fortunate to celebrate Christmas. As a parent, I believe that it is so important for children to realize the many blessings that we have and to share them with others, especially during Christmas. The Giving Tree is one of those special times where we make time as a family to help others, and it is privilege to participate in the Giving Tree each year,” says Melodie Sidun, a parent at Holy Savior Academy.
It is our hope at Holy Savior Academy that our students will take what they have learned and continue giving back.
