SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Holy Savior Academy’s Class of 2019 will officially graduate in just a few short weeks and while high school decisions have all been made there are still finals to take and trips to go on before the eighth graders adorn their caps and gowns.

“This is an exciting and busy time for our eighth grade class,” said Carol Woodburn, principal of the South Plainfield-based preK-3 through eighth grade Middlebrook Deanery Catholic School.

On May 16, the eighth graders will assist the second graders during a school-wide May Crowning ceremony and, on May 21, the upper classman will oversee events and activities for the younger children at the school’s annual field day. Finals will take place the last week of May and then it’s time for the eighth graders to celebrate.

The Eighth Grade Class Trip, scheduled for May 31, will include a day in New York City with a Blue Man Group show, lunch at Dave and Busters, and a visit to Madame Tussauds. And, on June 3, the students’ athletic and extracurricular accomplishments will be recognized at an awards night. A yearbook singing party will be held the afternoon of June 5 and then, it’s time for graduation. A special mass honoring the Class of 2019 will be held in Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. June 7 with students receiving their diplomas and academic awards at a 7 p.m. commencement ceremony.

This year’s graduating class includes 17 students, all of whom will attend private or Catholic high schools, including Bishop Ahr, Union Catholic, Wardlaw + Hartridge, Mother Seton, Mount Saint Mary’s, and Saint Joseph, in the fall.

“This class has grown and matured so much, especially since the fall. It truly is a bright and talented group of students,” said Woodburn.

For Woodburn, who will be retiring at the end of the school year, this year’s graduation and biding farewell to the Class of 2019 is bittersweet. “We are both leaving at the same time and I want them to remember to be open to all the wonderful and exciting places they will go,” she said. “These students have had an impact on me and I’d like to think I’ve had an impact on them, too.”
